FILLER MASTERBATCH - A NEW TYPE OF PLASTIC?

The leading product of StarPoly is filler masterbatch, which can be considered a revolutionary product that has ushered in a new era for the plastics industry. It is the best way for producers to enhance the performance of raw plastics and help them solve one of their biggest problems—lowering production costs.

FILLER MASTERBATCH - A NEW TYPE OF PLASTIC?

1. Base Resin’s nature to properties of Filler Masterbatch

Regarding plastic, the original ingredient in filler masterbatch, it is a synthetic material derived from organic ingredients like coal, natural gas, salt, cellulose, and especially crude oil. Since plastic is a polymer chain, it can also be said that polymer refers to plastic, with molecules made of hydrogen and carbon atoms, sometimes in the presence of other elements like oxygen, nitrogen, chlorine, silicon, fluoride, sulfur, phosphorus, etc. Filler masterbatch is very diverse on the market, with each type having unique features and characteristics. This variation is largely caused by the various types of resin bases.

In addition to the thermal aspect, other basic principles for plastic classification include its molecular structure and composition (i.e., the number of different types of monomers), which can be used to say that the variety of them is based on the variety of base resins. Plastics are classified in many ways depending on their properties, function, or composition. One of the most common ways to divide them into groups is based on the thermal aspect. According to this feature, there are 2 types of plastic: thermoset and thermoplastic.

2. What is the difference between resin and filler masterbatch?

Although resin is a polymer chain that contains no other components, filler masterbatch is a mixture of several components, of which base resin is one of the most important. Calcium carbonate powder, which makes up the second most important component of filler masterbatch, comes in second place to base resin. In addition to the base resin and CaCO3 powder (content 70–80%), manufacturers can add pigments or other additives based on customer requirements. The introduction of plastic filler was made to improve the quality of plastic products while lowering production costs.

3. The way to produce Filler Masterbatch

The four fundamental steps in the filler masterbatch production process are as follows:

  • CaCO3 stone powder, base resin, and additives are combined by a machine at a high speed.

  • The mixture is then heated to a liquid state.

  • Next, it will be pushed into the mold by the twin screw extruder's screw and cooled.

  • Finally, plastic is fed through a cutter to be cut into granules. To give the raw plastic new characteristics, these particles will be mixed into the resin.

4. Filler Masterbatch’s outstanding advantages

What advantages does using Filler Masterbatch offer? Many firms are interested in knowing the answer to this question. In response, StarPoly would like to highlight a few particularly noteworthy advantages of filler masterbatch for the plastics sector:

  • Lowers product costs: CaCO3 stone powder, which is one of the world's huge and high-quality reserves, is one of the key elements of filler masterbatch. Because of this, products benefit from steady inputs and lower production costs, which in turn help to cut expenses and boost product competitiveness.

  • Aids in improving the product's mechanical qualities, such as its hardness, plasticity, and rate of shrinkage.

  • Variety application: Filler masterbatch, when coupled with various base resins to boost the product's function and value, may be readily processed into granules or rolled into powder with the required hardness and stable chemical properties.

  • Improved formability: Filler masterbatch facilitates even heat distribution for products such as spinning and blown film. hence reducing the amount of bubbles that form on the plastic's surface while it is being produced.

5. Applications of filler masterbatch

Filler masterbatch is an excellent product with significant cost advantages, which has led to its widespread use in numerous production industries.

5.1. Filler masterbatch used in sheets of extrusion and plastic film

Certain synthetic materials, such as LDPE, LLDPE, or HDPE, can be mixed with virgin resin directly to create filler masterbatch mixtures that function as plastic fillers at the same time. In essence, they provide better non-stick and non-slip qualities. The final product's surface will attain an opacity appropriate for printing. The final goods' tensile strength is also increased, enabling its structure and shape to maintain their entirety even under stretching. Furthermore, because it doesn't include any hazardous components, the substance is safe to come into touch with food.

5.2. Filler masterbatch used in non-woven fabric

Calcium carbonate nonwovens are used in a very broad range of products, including personal care, medical care, technical fabrics (fabrics that can absorb, separate, filter, and protect), reinforcement, and drainage for use in irrigation, transportation, and environmental engineering. When producing nonwovens, fillers provide the following advantages:

  • Minimized the shadow layer's impact, increasing the surface's matte and opaqueness and improving the fabric structure's coverage.

  • Ensure that the product is naturally white and is not yellow.

  • Increased mechanical strength and heat conductivity.

  • Helping to reduce processing temperature so that producers can cut production expenses and energy costs while increasing productivity.

  • Good dispersibility makes it simple to combine with a wide range of substrates, and it may be shaped and processed in a variety of ways.

5.3. Filler masterbatch used in Extrusion

Filler MB combined with PP resin is an ideal way to produce furniture, receptacles, bottles, jars, baskets, and other household goods.
