White filler masterbatch is one of the most popular types of filler masterbatch. This is most likely because it not only reduces environmental impact and costs, but it also helps the final product achieve its aesthetic purpose while retaining all of the durable properties of plastic. They are not all the same, and their differences can vary greatly depending on the situation. This guide will take you through three comon types of white filler masterbatch.
1. POPULAR TYPES OF WHITE FILLER MASTERBATCH
1.1. CaCO3 filler masterbatch
Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) powder is mixed with virgin plastic and some additives, heated to high temperatures, and then cooled. The mixture is then extruded and chopped into beads, resulting in a white filler masterbatch.
However, these natural white beads cannot maintain adequate whiteness in plastic. CaCO3 dispersion can be difficult, and the whiteness alone may not be as bright as TiO2. That's when manufacturers devise a solution that includes titanium dioxide to increase opacity and dispersion, ultimately improving overall physical and chemical properties.
As plastic becomes more important in all aspects of life, these beads have progressed from simple fillers to critical additives. They are now a one-of-a-kind additive that provides good opacity and dimensional stability while remaining reasonably priced.
1.2. Barium Sulfate (BaSO4) filler masterbatch
Nano-sized Barium sulfate masterbatch is blended with specific additives and sided with pure resin as a carrier, with or without fine powder for surface treatment, to create a new white filler.
Barium sulfate is an inorganic compound that exists in solid crystalline form and is white. It can be found naturally in barium minerals, but they are not pure. This compound is odorless and insoluble in water and alcohol. It can only dissolve in highly concentrated sulfuric acid. The usage ratio ranges from 1% to 10%, depending on the product type and requirements.
Barium sulfate masterbatch is commonly produced in large quantities and with superior properties. Furthermore, the product has excellent gloss performance, barrier properties, smoothing, and dispersion characteristics.
1.3. Talc filler masterbatch
Talc is a naturally occurring mineral of magnesium, silicon, and oxygen. While environmentalists are concerned about a shortage of raw materials, this solution will come in handy, not only improving the product's appearance but increasing its value in the consumer market.
Talc incorporation in plastic manufacturing allows for longer-lasting products with improved properties such as hardness, transparency, durability, and resistance to deformation. It also serves as a lubricant, smoothing agent, anti-stick, and antifreeze, adding to the product's functionality.
Talc can remove surface flaws and imperfections, resulting in a high-quality appearance. This low-cost and attractive solution is a must-have for manufacturers looking to cut production costs.
Talc is also suitable for most traditional manufacturing processes, including blow molding, injection molding, extrusion, and molding. As a result, there is no need to upgrade equipment or technology.
