Plastic is a popular material because of its many uses and affordability. It is used to manufacture hundreds of thousands of different products, such as shoes, construction materials, medical equipment, etc. Several factors influence the price of plastic, causing it to fluctuate constantly. Let's look at the article below to better understand the situation and find useful advice for both businesses and customers!
1. Why do plastic prices keep changing?
1.1. Crude oil price affects the plastic price
The rising price of crude oil will raise the plastics production cost, as will their selling price. Furthermore, this will raise the cost of transportation, affecting the logistics of various items and increasing overall pricing.

1.2. Environmental regulations make the plastic price keep changing
Those governing recycling and waste management may significantly raise the cost of producing plastic. It may require investments in new technology or processes, which raise manufacturing costs.
1.3. Manufacturing methods and processes- factors that affect plastic price
The plastic production process varies depending on the materials, equipment, and methods used. For example, injection molding costs more than blow molding, which is used to make PET bottles. As a result, the manufacturing method and nature of the product have a significant impact on the overall cost. Other factors, such as renting, labor, and equipment maintenance, can also affect the plastic price.
2. What should we do while the plastic price keeps changing?
Find alternative suppliers: Because plastic prices are unstable, businesses should always explore and negotiate with multiple suppliers. As a result, production will continue as usual.
Keep up with the market: Raw material prices, such as crude oil or natural gas, have a significant impact on production costs.
Invest in material and design innovations: Having a wide variety of materials and design options allows you to create your desired products with the same quality and functionality. So, there's no reason to stick with one option, especially as plastic prices rise. In the photo below, StarPoly invested in a new production line to maximize capacity and enhance product quality.

Pay attention to environmental regulations and eco-friendly materials: Use recycled materials whenever possible to promote sustainable development.
3. Why using filler masterbatch is a solution while the plastic price keeps changing?
Firstly, using filler masterbatch reduces production costs, which leads to a price advantage. Calcium carbonate is less expensive than polymer resins. By adding filler masterbatch in the formulation, you can reduce the amount of expensive polymer resin required, resulting in cost savings.
Secondly, the melt flow temperature of filler masterbatch is lower than polymer resin, which leads to lower power consumption in production and cuts down production expenses.
Thirdly, regarding environmental benefits, using filler masterbatch can be more environmentally friendly because it reduces the use of polymer resins derived from petrochemicals. This can help to reduce the environmental impact of plastic products. For example, a plastic bag made of PE filler masterbatch and resin decomposes faster than a plastic bag made from 100% plastic resin (since calcium carbonate powder decomposes faster than polymer resin).
